Teeth Whitening could be the answer…

Many people feel unhappy with their smile, in fact, according to a recent survey by Cosmetic Surgery Solicitors, 2 in 5 Brits are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth. This unhappiness can be attributed to missing teeth or crooked teeth. However, it is often due to the discolouration of teeth.

The yellowing and staining of the teeth can occur for a whole host of reasons. As well as ageing, the main other contributing factors are stain-causing food and drinks, such as red wine, tea, and coffee. Smoking also affects tooth colour considerably and certain medications and diseases can cause drastic tooth discolouration.

People are now less likely to just accept yellowing teeth. According to a Mintel survey in 2018, 43% of Brits are interested in non-surgical procedures, with 27% specifically interested in teeth whitening. It has become big business and we can understand the reasons why. Our Teeth Whitening Process

Here at The Holland Park Dentist, we believe the most effective teeth whitening process is a combination of in-surgery whitening, alongside customised home whitening trays.

At-Home Whitening – we make custom-designed teeth whitening trays for patients. They fit your teeth and gums perfectly. This customised fit limits any tooth or gum sensitivity from occurring. You need to wear the customised trays with a special whitening gel during sleep for approximately 2 weeks.

In-Surgery Whitening

For in-surgery teeth whitening, we use two highly trusted teeth whitening brands, Enlighten and Phillips Zoom!

Enlighten Whitening – It is billed as the world’s best-performing teeth whitening treatment and can guarantee Vita shade B1. It has long-lasting results and low sensitivity.

Tailor-made tooth trays will be made by your dentist and worn at home with the Enlighten whitening gel every night for 2 weeks. Once the 2 weeks have passed, we recommend coming into the practice with your trays and your dentist will complete an hour of enlighten gel whitening in the dentist’s chair.

Zoom! Whitening – we use Phillips Zoom! as our other in-surgery teeth whitening treatment. It is safe, quick and highly effective. Patients can get visibly whiter teeth in around 60 minutes. This treatment is perfect for busy people where time is a concern and they would like faster results, perhaps for a special event.

We protect the gums and soft tissues of your mouth and then apply the special lightening gel to your teeth. A bright activating light is then applied, and this helps speed up the whitening process. The whitening takes effect gradually and we can keep a close eye on things until the desired shade is achieved.

This treatment usually takes one visit to the dental practice, however, if the patient desires an even brighter shade, home whitening trays can also be custom-made to continue the whitening process.

In 2011, it became illegal for anyone other than a professional dentist to carry out tooth whitening in the UK. It is important to consult a dentist before undertaking any tooth whitening treatment. In the wrong hands, teeth whitening can cause damage to the enamel and soft tissue and can cause the recipient considerable pain and tooth sensitivity.
