White fillings provide a much more natural finish than traditional fillings, which are normally made of a silver appearing metal amalgam.
White fillings are most commonly made of a composite resin that can be colour-matched to the shade of your natural teeth or used to enhance their natural colour by going a shade whiter. Some patients choose to have their metal amalgam fillings replaced with white fillings for a more natural-looking finish.
The process of getting white fillings applied is very similar to that of traditional fillings. We’ll give you a local anaesthetic so that the area being treated is numb, and then we’ll remove any decay that may be present. When we apply the white fillings, the composite resin is applied in several layers and then cured under a bright light until the resin has hardened. Once this is done, you’ll be able to leave the practice with a brighter, more even-looking smile.
